These are really great bridges at less than 1/2 the cost of the others. The walnut has a beautiful, warm, mellow sound with balanced volume across the strings (I guess that's the advantage of the achilles?) When I received it the cap wood was not quite wide enough for Crowe spacing, which I prefer. At $10 you cannot beat this bridge. Quality - The bridge appears to be durable. The Dark Star does just what I'd hoped it would. The Katalox cap is strong, stands up to refilling the string slots Im using a thicker gauge nylon string and Davids bridges were apparently slotted for steel strings. So it boils down to the bridge. It's like a whole new banjo. Joints, feet, cut outs are all done with enough precision to suit my tastes. It definately did. The curves are sinuous looking and the finish is very smooth with just a very light oil to protect and bring out the grain. One of my band members even mentioned that my banjo sounded much better, and I hadn't told him about the change of bridge. Unbelievably, I think it has more volume than the ESPII, but that's the way Iike it. I contacted Jerry about building me a bridge for my Stealth. The 3rd and 4th string really sing with this bridge on. All the bridges sounded very good. Needing to use a capo in order to reach all the scales, I started noticing (in line with my improved hearing and my tampering with the banjo itself) that the intonation was painfully off. They're not a map to follow, but simply a description of what people commonly feel. Bart is based in Canada, so mailing time to the United States takes some time due to customs, etc. Bart was familiar with the specific dimensions of the instrument andshipped the new bridge one day after I made payment. I ordered two standard spaced 3/4" bridges, one Maple/Padauk and one Zebra/Katalox for the maple and two 11/16" radius bridges one Maple/Padauk and one Zebra/Katalox each with his Achilles heel. The rest of the set up was a breeze. My Nechvillenow has the clarity, strong 4thand up the neck power that I knew was there to be uncovered. If you're working with a grover or Goodtime or Washburn factory issue, the Kateyz will make a huge difference. Just trying to spread the word here.these bridges and Bart are special. I would not hesitate to order another bridge from Bart or recommend his bridges to other players. After doing some warm up with the old bridge, I replaced it with the new David Cunningham bridge. For players that need a wide range of "settings" and a have decently controlled touch, IMO this is the perfect bridge. Due to the arches under the top rail, a Mike's Mute must have bevels filed on the outside corners of the legs to fit the arches but once filed it works very well. I installed this bridge to replace the Gibson bridge that came original on my Earl Scruggs Standard. I just am not able to detect what that does for me.Overall the bridge has done everything Mr. Lawson said it would do. I didn't change any of the set up so I know it was the bridge. This helps to prevent sag at the top of the bridge over time.. It is beautifully made and really brings out a fuller sound from my banjo--highly recommended! It will show you "the sound", and that is the best statement I can make for this bridge. Plus, Greg was a delight to deal with--great communication, great service, amazing bridge! I will definitely be calling Jerry again for my bridge needs.
